FORSTTECH: Local roots, innovation and a passion for firewood

Simon Schächle, managing director of FORSTTECH in Liechtenstein, has over 20 years’ experience in firewood processing. What began with a SpaltFix 300 has grown into a successful family business with ten employees, where the next generation is already working alongside the current one.

Success through short, direct routes

Efficient firewood processing with a long-term vision

For Schächle, the use of modern technology is a key factor in success. He is particularly impressed by the SpaltFix K-650 Vario, which he describes as one of the best investments of the last few decades. The machine enables efficient, high-quality firewood processing directly at the customer’s premises – an advantage that they particularly value in light of growing demands for sustainability and local sourcing.

FORSTTECH currently operates in four countries and serves around 3,000 customers. Despite the boom in firewood sales, the company deliberately kept its price rises to a minimum in order to secure long-term customer relationships. Quality, a customer-focused approach and a strong regional focus characterise the company’s philosophy. Schächle criticises international supply chains in which timber is transported across several countries yet is still marketed as regional.

Shaping the future of our forests

Healthy forests: a challenge for the future

As well as economic issues, he is also concerned about the future of our forests. Ash dieback is bringing about lasting changes to the forest landscapes of Liechtenstein and Central Europe. As a member of the working group on the ‘Liechtenstein Forest Strategy 2030+’, Schächle is committed to resilient forests and sustainable forestry.

Looking ahead, he plans to expand his production capacity and remains committed to combining modern technology, regional value creation and sustainable practices. His vision: Firewood should once again be what it originally was – harvested, processed and used locally.
