Screening and feeding function

The sieve unit is the central component of the LogFix and is responsible for the actual cleaning function. It consists of several screening shafts arranged side by side, which are mounted at a distance from one another such that the screening discs overlap. Every second wave is axially offset, which precisely defines the fixed screening width. The screening shafts, fitted with square screening discs welded on at an angle, run in solid cast housing bearings and guarantee maximum stability. A powerful gearbox or hydraulic motor drives a shaft, whilst robust sprockets and roller chains reliably transmit the power to all subsequent shafts – ensuring consistently high performance. As they rotate, the screening shafts create a dynamic vibrating motion that loosens the logs, thereby efficiently removing impurities. The screened material falls reliably through the gaps between the screen bars. During the cleaning process, the logs are continuously conveyed along the line and then discharged at the outlet – without the need for any additional feed unit.

Tilt adjustment

The ability to adjust the tilt of the screen surface allows the transport speed of the logs over the screening rollers to be controlled, thereby also influencing the cleaning efficiency. The steeper the angle of the screen surface is set, the longer the logs remain on it. This increases the cleaning time and results in even cleaner logs. The angle of inclination of the sieve unit can be adjusted from 10° to 5° by unscrewing two feet. The machine must be lifted using a lifting tool in order to change the bolts.

Solid base frame

The solid base frame, with four fixed feet, ensures that the machine stands firmly. An optional 600 mm elevation is available for greater loading and ejection heights.

Filling hopper

Thanks to the filling hopper, the machine can be fed flexibly from three sides: Either via a conveyor belt or using a shovel (e.g. from a wheel loader or front-end loader). When feeding logs via a conveyor belt, the hopper can also be used as a buffer, so that feeding into the LogFix 60 – e. , for example, using a SpaltFix – can continue uninterrupted, even if the screening process has to be temporarily halted, for instance because the container to be filled is full. The advantage: Less downtime, higher throughput and a smooth, continuous workflow that saves time and boosts the efficiency of the entire plant. A backflow valve allows the flow rate to be regulated and is used to adjust the screening intensity of the logs. The operation of the non-return valve can be adjusted using the adjustable counterweight. To accommodate shovel feeding, the solid walls of the filling hopper are further reinforced in the upper section by means of flanges and shaped tubes. The angle of the wall is designed to ensure that the logs always slide down reliably. Additional edge plates in the corners ensure that no logs are left lying there either.

Precise ejection of the logs

A chute at the end of the screen surface ensures that the cleaned logs are discharged and transferred cleanly, for example into the feed hopper of a PackFix. On one side, the chute is shaped like a comb, so that it fits perfectly around the shape of the screen discs on the screen shaft. This prevents logs from becoming jammed between the screening shaft and the chute, or pieces of wood that are too large from slipping through.

Central collection of the splinters

The waste hopper ensures a clean workplace by allowing the screened-out waste to be collected beneath the LogFix thanks to its funnel shape. These can either fall into a container provided by the customer or be transported away via a conveyor belt positioned underneath. Access to the discharge area and, consequently, to the screening shafts underneath the machine is not protected! Given the various options for collecting the logs (collection bins, use of a conveyor belt), this area must be secured with safety measures customer-side to ensure safe operation.

LogFix 60 – The high-performance log sorter for large volumes of timber

The extra-large LogFix performs cleaning for up to 60 cubic metres of loose firewood per hour. A hopper acts as a buffer and also allows for convenient feeding using a front-loading loader. The fifteen rotating rollers operate quietly and remove unwanted chips, bark and wood splinters from the logs, which then fall down in a controlled manner. The wireless remote control allows the screen to be operated conveniently from any position, without the operator having to be in the immediate vicinity of the machine. Can be combined with firewood processors and SpaltFix models. Comb tines are available as an optional extra for even more thorough cleaning.

Easy maintenance

To lubricate the bearings on the screen shafts and the roller chains, the protective covers can be loosened with just one screw each and folded up. A sophisticated mechanism locks the flaps in the open position, allowing easy access for maintenance. This, in turn, reduces wear and tear and extends the machine’s service life.

Easy to use

The control box features three push-buttons, an indicator light and the emergency stop function for ease of use. - A button to start the automatic mode (the screening rollers are switched on). - A button to stop the automatic mode (the screening rollers are stopped). - A button to manually reverse the screening rollers: Should a piece of wood ever become jammed, the screening rollers can simply be switched to reverse, allowing the wood to be released fast and with safety. The reverse movement only continues whilst pressure is applied to the button. This prevents the machine from running continuously by mistake. - The automatic function can also be conveniently started and stopped using a radio remote control – for maximum ease of use.

Electric drive with radio remote control and rotation monitoring

The electric motor runs quietly and can be powered by electricity from renewable sources. These solutions help to reduce air pollution and do not produce any harmful exhaust fumes in your working environment. The gear motor is mounted directly onto the screen shaft and is securely fastened in place by a torque plate to ensure safety. This eliminates the need for additional drive components, which reduces wear and tear and makes maintenance considerably easier. The built-in motor protection ensures a long service life by protecting against thermal overload. A phase inverter makes it easy to reverse the direction of rotation. A sensor continuously monitors the rotational movement of the screen shafts, thereby ensuring maximum operational reliability. If an obstruction is detected, the rollers first move backwards for about three seconds and then forwards again. If the blockage also occurs whilst reversing, the rollers will move forwards for about three seconds. If the blockage is not cleared immediately, the system automatically repeats the forward/reverse cycle up to three times. The automatic system then switches the machine off and indicates this status via the red indicator light on the control cabinet. In this case, the block must be removed manually. In addition, electric drives offer significant cost savings compared with conventional internal combustion engines. The electric motor’s low energy consumption reduces running costs, and the electric drive system is also easy to maintain. This reduces maintenance costs, increases the machine’s uptime and reduces the need for repairs and spare parts, leading to further cost savings in the long term.
