Swivel arm

The swivel arm is mounted on the lifting mast so that it can rotate via low-maintenance plain bearings and supports the winding unit. In addition, it can be moved along the swivel arm and thus aligned with and coupled to the filling drum positioned below it.

Quick-change system for the filling drums

Fast drum change, easy to use: When using several drums, the quick-change system makes it particularly easy and quick to swap them out. The drum is positioned beneath the winding unit, hooked into place and locked in position with a single movement. It’s already securely connected and ready for use, without the need for any extra tools.

Filling drum

The filling drum, which is open at both the top and bottom, stands on a pallet and serves as a collection container for logs, which can then be subjected to packaging straight away. Once loaded, the wood can be wrapped in netting in no time at all – this simplifies and speeds up the process considerably. Thanks to its robust all-steel construction, the drum offers a long service life and requires minimal maintenance. It consists of three segments bolted together, which can be replaced individually if necessary. Two stiffening rings are fitted at the top and in the middle. The upper ring serves to reinforce the structure and as a mounting point for the quick-change system. The central stiffening ring provides additional stability and is fitted with mounting holes which, in the mobile version, ensure safety during transport. Slits on the sides of the upper section provide a clear view into the drum, allowing the filling height to be checked at any time. With a diameter of 1200 mm and a height of 1450 mm, it offers a generous loading capacity of 1.6 srm, which is roughly equivalent to one cubic metre of wood. We offer an optional filling drum with a height of 1750 mm and a filling capacity of 2 srm. The volume in cubic metres depends on the wood type, the quality of the logs, the log length, the size of the logs and the splitting technique/shape of the logs. Check the quantity produced in cubic metres, taking into account the number of logs and the production method used.

Packaging process

The drum can either be filled directly on the PackFix or positioned under the winding unit once it has already been filled. The packaging process then proceeds as follows: 1. The net is secured to the pallet by the operator using knots. 2. The packaging process is started by actuation of the rotation control lever in the operating area: The stationary filling drum is wrapped in netting by the rotating winding arm. 3. Once the filling drum has been wound round once or twice, the winding unit, including the filling drum, is raised hydraulically by actuating the second control lever again. The filling drum and the logs inside it are now securely and evenly wrapped in the round bale net. 4. This process continues until the filling drum reaches its upper end position. The packaging process stops when you release the control levers. 5. The mesh can be cut from the roll using the knife supplied. 6. The timber bundle with packaging is now ready for collection or storage.

Winding unit

To make it easy to position the winding unit above the filling drum, it can be moved linearly along the swivel arm using rollers and easily secured using the quick-change system. A spring-loaded braking unit allows the winding unit to be moved easily along the swivel arm whilst preventing it from continuing to move uncontrollably. The rotatable wrapping arm ensures that the logs are wrapped evenly inside the filling drum, whilst a counterweight ensures optimum weight distribution. The drive is provided by a hydraulic motor, which transmits the motion via a toothed belt. To prevent the wrapping arm from colliding with the pallet during the application of larger pallets in the lowest position, the sliding net roll holder can simply be raised and secured with a fixing screw. To ensure the net is wound evenly, it must remain taut throughout the winding process so that it is wound tightly around the drum and cannot slip off. This is made possible by clamping the cable reel into the holder using a quick-release fastener. The required tension can be easily adjusted using a screw. For fast replacement, the mesh roll can be changed tool-free using the quick-release mechanism. A knife is included in the scope of delivery to cut the net after the winding process; it is attached to a chain so that it is always within easy reach.

PackFix Hydro Stationary

This version is equipped with a base frame that allows for easy feeding using a forklift. There are four drive options available for operation: Powered either by an electric motor, a petrol engine, the tractor’s hydraulic system or the tractor’s PTO shaft. The drum can be filled whilst standing directly on the base frame. In this case, the conveyor belt must be swung out of the way before the packaging process begins, to prevent it from colliding with the wrapping unit. Alternatively, the drum can be filled at a different location and then placed on the base frame using a forklift. Once the packaging process is complete, the finished pack can also be lifted off the base frame using a forklift truck and transported to the storage area. For even greater flexibility, a floor frame is optional for feeding with a pallet truck.

PackFix: Firewood with neat packaging – ideal for drying, storing and delivery.

Fresh firewood must be left to dry thoroughly before use to ensure it reaches its full calorific value and burns cleanly and efficiently. Whilst metre-long logs can simply be stored on a woodpile, this is less practical for logs with a length of up to 50 cm. This is exactly where PackFix comes in – the ideal solution for the efficient storage and drying of firewood ready for the stove. The sturdy packs can be stacked on top of one another, which is handy for space-saving storage. The logs fall directly from the conveyor belt or the screening plant into the filling drum. They are then wrapped in a breathable mesh. The optional hydraulic swivel table allows the drum to be filled on one side and used for packaging on the other. This enables virtually uninterrupted production.

Protective cover with door and handle

The robust protective housing, featuring a fully enclosed box design, reliably protects the hydraulic tank, the control valve, the motor and the switch with a CEE plug (for units with an electric motor) from external influences such as dirt, dust and mechanical damage. This not only elevates operational reliability but also extends the service life of the entire system. The safety door can be opened tool-free to allow easy access for maintenance work or for the connection of the power supply.

PackFix Hydro Stationary installation

Thanks to its integrated forklift attachments, the PackFix Hydro can be easily transported by forklift whilst stationary and set up with minimal effort. Once the machine has been installed, the forklift attachments must be removed. With Option GH, transport by forklift is only possible with the floor frame folded down and using the standard delivery aid.

Adjustable sub-frame

The sub-frame provides a stable base for the PackFix Hydro and ensures it stands securely and firmly with high levels of safety. It also serves as a base for positioning a pallet on which the drum can be placed and reliably filled. Integrated stops ensure that the pallet is positioned precisely and aligned consistently throughout the work process. These stops are adjustable for both possible pallet sizes. The sub-frame stands out thanks to its robust steel construction and high-quality powder coating, which make it particularly durable and resistant to the stresses of everyday use. Thanks to its adjustable feet, the frame can be aligned precisely, ensuring a stable and safe setup even on uneven ground.

Lifting mast

It is guided through the base frame by generously sized plastic and brass guides. During the winding process, the winding unit, including the filling drum, is raised by the lifting mast through actuation of the control lever. The lifting speed is perfectly matched to the winding speed, so that the process does not need to be interrupted. This ensures that the winding result is always consistent. The result is sturdy packs that take up little storage space and can be easily stacked on top of one another.

Swivel arm

Recommended pallet sizes for optimum stability

A pallet serves as the basis for the packaging system: 1. Filling: The pallet positioned beneath the filling drum forms the base for the filling process. 2. Transporting the drum: Once filled, the filling drum can be easily transported together with the pallet. 3. Transport and storage of the pack: Once wrapped, the finished pack sits on the pallet and can thus be easily transported and stored. To prevent logs from slipping out at the sides, additional boards must be fitted to pallets smaller than 1200 × 1200 mm. Recommended pallet sizes for optimum stability: - 1000 × 800 mm pallet with 4 boards (each having a length of 1230 mm) - 1200 × 800 mm pallet with 4 boards (each having a length of 1230 mm) With these pallets, the package is wrapped together with the pallet. This ensures optimum support and high stability. Note regarding large pallets (1200 × 1200 mm or 1230 × 1230 mm): With these pallets without boards, the wrapping process can only begin above the pallet, as the wrapping arm would collide with the pallet if it were in its lowest position. As a result, the pack is not completely wrapped around the pallet, which reduces its stability.

High-quality, high-performance hydraulic system

An aluminium gear pump ensures a consistent flow rate and guarantees a high level of operational reliability and a long service life. The compact multi-valve block with an integrated pressure gauge allows for a convenient control system for several functions and easy pressure monitoring. The hydraulic tank is equipped with a return filter and an oil dipstick, which keeps the hydraulic oil clean and significantly extends the service life of all components. A hydraulic cylinder fitted with a safety valve is used for the lifting function, ensuring a high level of operational safety. The winding function is achieved by a hydraulic motor with a power chain, which ensures optimum hose guidance and minimises wear. As an optional piece of equipment, the system can be fitted with a swivel table driven by an additional hydraulic motor, thereby further increasing the flexibility of the overall system.

Higher productivity thanks to the swivel table

The rotatable frame, mounted on a pivot, has space for two filling drums. Whilst one drum is being filled, the other can be involved in packaging at the same time. It enables the machine to operate with virtually no downtime (e.g. in combination with a SpaltFix), which feeds the logs into the loading drum. The conveyor belt remains in position – there is no need to swivel it out of the way. Once the packaging process is complete, the finished pack is transported to the storage area by forklift. A new pallet is then placed in position – with stops ensuring optimal positioning – and the empty filling drum is set down on top of it. The second drum is now completely full. Simply by actuating the control lever at the PackFix Hydro control panel, the swivel frame with both drums can be rotated through 180° – fast and easily – using a solid ball-bearing slewing ring, a low-maintenance ring gear and a hydraulic motor. An operator platform with a grating floor ensures a comfortable operating and working height.

Greater capacity, greater efficiency

Machine model with a filling drum that is 300 mm taller (2 srm capacity instead of 1.6 srm). The larger drum makes it easier to calculate volumes when selling by cubic metre of bulk volume and allows for more efficient use of floor space. The increased filling volume allows for the optimal utilisation of storage and transport capacity, thereby reducing transport costs, making better use of storage capacity and improving the cost-effectiveness of the entire process. In this model, the machine is 300 mm higher when the filling drum is lowered and 600 mm higher when the drum is raised. The volume in cubic metres depends on the wood type, the quality of the logs, the log length, the size of the logs and the splitting technique/shape of the logs. Check the quantity produced in cubic metres, taking into account the number of logs and the production method used.

Adjustable sub-frame for pallet trucks

The sub-frame forms the sturdy base of the PackFix Hydro and ensures it remains stable throughout the entire working process, providing safety. The open side of the U-shaped frame is generously sized, so that the drum, once positioned on the pallet, can be easily and safely lowered onto the floor beneath the PackFix Hydro using a pallet truck or forklift. An integrated, adjustable stop enables the pallet to be positioned precisely and ensures repeatable alignment for efficient workflows. It can be flexible in its adaptation to both standard pallet sizes. The robust steel construction with a high-quality powder coating makes the sub-frame particularly durable and resilient in everyday use. Adjustable feet ensure a stable setup even on uneven ground. For space-saving storage or transport, the frame sections, which are mounted on rotatable bearings at the sides, can be easily folded away by loosening the fixing screws.
