Goodbye to two-handed gear changes – hello to the push of a button!

Ferdinand can be operated with just one hand: At the touch of a button, the machine performs automatic splitting of the trunks, leaving both your hands free during the splitting process so you can use the time for other tasks, such as preparing new trunks or stacking the split wood. A photoelectric sensor detects whether a person is in the danger zone or the splitting area. The splitting process is only triggered once you have left this area – this ensures safety while you work. With Ferdinand’s innovative one-handed operation, you’ll save time and perform splitting more safely and with less fatigue. Alternatively, you can also operate Ferdinand using the existing two-handed controls.

Fixomatic 2.0

The two-part splitting blade (Fixomatic system) securely holds the wood in place for the splitting process – without the need for any fiddly holding. The lower wedge also fixes thin or angled wood without any problems, and the wedge is conveniently released at operating height. The grooves cut into this part of the knife help with splitting fibrous or soft wood, prevent the knife from slipping and interlock with one another. In addition, the tried-and-tested wood holding tip on the wedge guide ensures an even better grip. As soon as the splitting process is triggered, the upper wedge moves towards the fixed wedge holder and pushes the splitting wedge through the wood. Grooves in the upper part of the wedge guarantee precise guidance during the splitting process and thus increase the operator's safety. The logs that have been split are held in place at the sides by the cushioned surfaces of the side wings – they can either be split again or transported to the storage area.

Touch encoder standard

The modern control unit with a high-resolution display enables smart communication with Ferdinand: Display of daily and total hours, oil temperature, PTO speed and cutting pressure, as well as the option to switch the work lights on or off. Thanks to the touch encoder, the desired splitting stroke for the appropriate log length can be set or reset with just one click and is saved for future splitting processes. If the optional splitting table is used, Ferdinand detects it automatically and adjusts the splitting stroke length accordingly. Another feature is the built-in USB connection, which you can use.

A larger workspace, greater freedom, greater comfort

Ferdinand’s two side arms protect what is important: You and everyone involved in the work process. When in the working position, they form a lateral enclosure around the entire splitting area. The upper section of the arms is made of transparent polycarbonate, which allows a clear view of the splitting area. In addition, the standard-fit LEDs ensure optimum lighting – ideal in low-light conditions or at dusk. The lower section is equipped with cushioned, shock-absorbing surfaces that act as anti-slip pads and provide impact protection for split wood. The robust steel handles make it easy to unfold the side wings fast and in a space-saving way – so Ferdinand is ready for transport. The wings can be opened individually or together, thereby extending the range of operation to 180 degrees. This makes it even easier and more convenient to pull the logs in using the winch.

Winch included

Large logs that cannot be moved by hand are effortlessly pulled towards the machine by the standard hydraulically driven winch, which has a pulling force of 750 kg. The radio remote control is used to release the cable so that it can be pulled out unimpeded; it can then be pulled back towards the trunk manually at any speed. The block strip hook, which is included in the scope of delivery, is used to secure the rope to the trunk. A brake on the drum prevents the rope from becoming tangled. Once the trunk is secured, the feed can be started at the touch of a button, whilst the operator can continue working efficiently. The radio-controlled winch avoids unnecessary travel and thus saves valuable time. The winch stands out thanks to: - a wide operating range of up to 180 degrees, - a high feed point with a swivelling pulley, - a rope cut-off mechanism during feed, and - the fact that it can be folded away to save space during transport. The swivelling side arms also offer maximum freedom of movement around trunks in both confined and open spaces. A 3-pin 12 V continuous-current socket on the tractor is required for operation. Two different gripping tongs and a chain with two block-and-pin hooks are available as optional extras for log handling.

Innovative splitting wedge as standard

The splitting blade, which slopes forwards at an angle, prevents the material being split from being pushed towards the operator, whilst at the same time reducing the effort required to split the wood. The riving wedge consists of two parts: To prevent the wood from falling towards the operator during the splitting process, rollers with grooves are incorporated into the upper splitting wedge, and grooves are integrated into the lower part of the splitting blade. These patented innovations ensure precise guidance, minimise slippage of the wood and thus protect the operator from falling logs.

Cushion for comfortable working

The benefits when working: - Logs that have already been split can be conveniently stored (temporarily). - This also means that smaller logs are ready to hand more quickly.

Adjustable splitting stroke

Idle travel is wasted time – our adjustable splitting stroke can significantly reduce it. Just one click is all it takes: To do this, position the splitting blade at the desired height; simply double-click the TouchEncoder to save this blade position, which will then serve as the end position for the return stroke. By default, the splitting blade moves all the way down. The splitting stroke can be set or adjusted in both directions using the TouchEncoder (an electronic control system). If the splitting stroke is limited at the top, the clearance to the log is reduced, and the setting is saved for future splitting processes.

Safety light curtain

The sensor technology fitted to the side wings ensures safety and easy access to the splitting area. This protects everyone involved in the splitting process. If the light curtain is interrupted – whether by the operator or a piece of wood – the splitting process stops immediately and the splitting blade returns to its starting position.

Maintenance

The maintenance hatch on the rear of the machine provides fast and easy access to the hydraulics and electronics. As an electrically operated valve for the gap adjustment function is fitted, there is no longer any need to change the detent set.

Tool holder

Where should you put your tools when your machine is on the move? Use the tool holder fitted as standard to secure the necessary accessory equipment for transport.

It’s all over for Ferdinand

For storage and transport, the side wings can be folded in and secured, and the cylinder retracted. Tools carried on the machine can be securely attached to the standard fittings on the machine.

2-in-1 – With Ferdinand, even short timber up to 33 cm in length can be split in no time at all. Thanks to its intelligent control system, Ferdinand automatically detects when the short-log table is being applied and precisely adjusts the splitting stroke length to match the table height. Thanks to its handy wheels and sturdy handle, this robust short-log table can be pushed fast and easily into the splitting area. The side wings, with their upturned edges, reliably prevent split wood from falling out – your back will thank you for it!

2-hook stripper

Would you like to attach the rope to the trunk using a chain and two block strip hooks instead of the standard block strip hook, in order to pull large logs towards the machine even more safely? The block strip hooks are driven into the trunk, ensuring a secure hold.
